Give the Gift of Reading this Graduation Season!

Give the Gift of Reading this Graduation Season!

Graduation season is upon us, and what better gift for those who are finishing high school or college than a copy of beloved storyteller Pat Conroy’s My Reading Life, a celebration of the books and writers that have shaped his life? Written with Conroy’s trademark pathos and wit, each chapter offers a compelling case for reading as widely and deeply as we can. Starting as a childhood passion that bloomed into a life-long companion, reading has been Conroy’s portal to the world, both to the furthest corners of the globe and to the deepest chambers of the human soul. His interests range widely, from Milton to Tolkien, Philip Roth to Thucydides, encompassing poetry, history, philosophy, and any mesmerizing tale of his native South. Reading for Conroy is not simply a pleasure to be enjoyed in off-hours or a source of inspiration for his own writing. It would hardly be an exaggeration to claim that reading has saved his life, and if not his life then surely his sanity. A passionate ode to lifelong learning, Conroy’s memoir belongs on the shelf of any new graduate.

I truly believe that Pat Conroy is one of the very best writers of the 20th and 21st centuries!
I have never read anyone else who has such a vivid way with words; I feel I am a part of the story, that I know the places, the people. They are so real and so touching. I have enjoyed every one, but Beac Music will always be my favorite.
    Lone May you write!!

  2. Roger Hahn says:

Karen, I agree. Wholeheartedly. The way he uses words is just incredible and I love the fact that I learn several new words in every book. And I thought I had a very strong vocabulary! And Beach Music is the best of the best. What a treat.
