We know it’s not fair to judge a book by its cover, but let’s dispense with the rules just this once. Next spring is still a ways off and while our sales catalog is being copyedited we wanted to give you a sneak peek at what’s on deck. So… say you’re roaming through your favorite bookstore next January and spot one of these among the table stacks. Would you pick it up? And after the book is in your hands, what would you look at next? The jacket copy? The blurbs on the back cover? Comments welcome!

There are some great covers here, although I’d read Thomas Cahill even if it came out in a plain brown wrapper. Is this going to be the next in the Hinges of History series? Any chance of getting an ARC when it’s ready? It’s my favorite series, and I’d just decided my blog next year is going to be devoted almost entirely to Histories and Mysteries.
Appealing covers, except for the “Fat Years,” which I assume is intentionally jarring.
The first thing I look for on a cover is the author’s name. Then I read the jacket copy. Blurbs on back don’t have much impact for me.
